Achieving Sustainability. According to the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development, sustainability means “meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” T his course is designed to introduce the concepts of sustainability and how they apply to local, regional and national governments and non-government organizations (NGOs). We explore the social, economic and environmental components of sustainability with examples from across the globe and from the participants’ home regions. The training will give leaders, managers and employees ideas and tools to influence, develop and evaluate sustainability initiatives; help in planning and communications; and practice in creating sustainability action plans and sustainability outreach plans in their own fields. This is a one-week course (mid-morning Monday to early afternoon Friday), offered the first week of each quarter (January, April, July, October)

Improving Public Sector Services – Organizational Productivity and Effectiveness: This course is designed to engage participants in applying business process reengineering and transformation methods and tools. Based on case studies it will provide the experience and the skill required to improve the operations of national, regional, and local government agencies and ministries. Participants learn proven and tested methods and apply them in service improvement solutions for their specific ministries, agencies, and projects. These methods and tools include:

  • Governmental strategic priorities,
  • Functional capabilities,
  • Business process modeling,
  • Business rules
  • Benchmarking techniques, implementation of performance measures such as Quality, Efficiency, and Cost,
  • Assessment of the needed skills
  • Developing the appropriate corrective actions to bridge the gaps between current and future
  • Using a modeling tool, such as Visio

This is a one-week course (mid-morning Monday to early afternoon Friday), offered on as needed basis.
